Ashlea Bates - Motocross
Currently living in Coffs Harbour , 17 year old Ashlea started riding in 1997 at the age of 6 on a Z50 around the paddocks on the family property. Just 4 years later, in 2001, aged 11, she was 1st in the Women's Championship held at Coolum. She has been racing MX for 8 years
Last year Ashlea rolled out an impressive string of wins to finish:
1st Queensland Women's MX Championships
1st Queensland Husqvarna Go Girls MX Series
2nd Australian Senior Women's MX Championships
2nd New Zealand Senior Women's MX Championships
This year, Ashlea joined the Husqvarna Female Factory Motocross Team, “The Husky Chix”, where she has the position of female senior rider. She will contest rounds on the east coast of Australia .
“There is now a lot of competition amongst us girls, and I am really looking forward to the season. My new Husqvarna TC250 is awesome, the power and handling are great. Now I can concentrate on my training and winning the title in 2008 – I know I can do it, especially with the backing of Husqvarna and my sponsors - I am really pumped.”
When she is not competing, Ash or Batesy as she is sometimes called, likes to train and work out either on the bike, swimming, or in the boxing ring – YOU GO GIRL!
